Central America Program
PREAL’s Central America Program supports civil society organizations in the region in their work towards informing the national and regional education policy debates, and to improve the coverage, quality, equity and efficiency of Central America’s education systems.
The program is conducted in collaboration with national counterparts in seven countries of the region:
· Costa Rica
· El Salvador
· Guatemala
· Honduras
· Nicaragua
· Panama
· Dominican Republic
Program activities
Activities are conducted with national counterparts in each of the above countries. These activities, conducted through Basic Partnerships with national counterparts include:
- Disseminate new ideas, best practices, policy case studies, and other PREAL publications related to education policy reform.
- Organize public conferences, workshops, debates and other public fora on education policy, as well as in collaboration with PREAL’s Working Groups, Business Education Alliance program, and other PREAL network members.
- Evaluate policies and monitor national education through the preparation and/or dissemination of national report cards, policy audits and other monitoring tools.
- Facilitate the interchange of experiences in network with other countries of the region.
The Central America program relies on support from the Task Force on Education Reform in Central America, as well as the Central American Coordinating Committee – each comprised of high-level members from multiple sectors in the region.
Both groups are being reformed in 2010.
